Rant
Okay, so it’s been a while since I’ve posted and my first post in while will be a rant. I don’t know about some of you, but I’m pretty particular about how my groceries are bagged. For convenience, I do a big shop so I don’t have to keep running to the store. When I put my groceries on the conveyor belt, I put them on in categories – you know, toiletries, cold stuffs, frozen section, meat etc.
So why then do the people bagging my groceries insist on putting cleaning products in with actual food? And I’m all for not using a lot of plastic bags, but why do they insist on stuffing the bag to breaking point, which then has been demanding a double-bagging? This is the one reason I like the self-check out at Walmart. Say what you will about Walmart, say what you will about the self-check outs causing job losses. If someone isn’t doing their job properly in the first place (do people get trained to bag groceries?) then maybe they should get a new job.
Anyway, that’s all for now. I’ll be back soon (hopefully) with a finished object.

I often bring in my own bags, and then they will put three things in the bag I brought and then put the rest in a bunch of plastic bags. I tend to walk the the store, so my shopping tends to all fit in one of the baskets, that should not translate into six plastic bags. So, yes, I self check out a lot.
oh, my pet peeve is the people who don’t know how to handle fruit and veggies. it’s mostly the cashiers. they throw fruit around and bruise it, especially if the bagger is working another check out line. i think they’re so careless because they live at home and aren’t paying for their own groceries yet. so they have no thought to how people don’t want to spend hard earned money on cashier-mauled fruit.
Hey, I group my groceries too! Lucky for me though, the baggers at my Fred Meyer’s always do a great job. Maybe they get training, who knows
Sorry you had a sucky experience.
I’m the same way — I like to bag all my groceries myself. I don’t like mixing food and cleaning supplies, and my produce I especially like to bag myself because when someone else does it, they always seem to bruise it.
My cousin worked as a bagger at WalMart, for a total of 6 days. He got fired because he used to many bags. He was given 3 chances!
He would use a bag for box shoes, another bag for chips and a 3rd bag for milk.
I did an experiment and bought the same things at a diffrent counter, he put the milk together and chips together in one bag and made me carry the box of shoes with out a bag.
I still don’t know which way is better.
